I was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. I left South Africa in 1982 and attended Columbia University in New York where I completed my Masters Degree in Psychology. I then moved to Pittsburgh which has been my home for the past 27 years.
My first 7 years in Pittsburgh were spent teaching English and Latin at Fox Chapel High School where I also served on the collective bargaining team and grievance committee for the local teachers' union. In my last year teaching in 1989 I was voted "Teacher of the Year" by the student body. While teaching full-time at Fox Chapel High School, I attended the night program at Duquesne University School of Law. After graduating from law school in 1988, I became an associate at the law firm of Zimmer Kunz PLLC where I have practiced as a trial lawyer for the past 21 years in the area of civil litigation. I have been a partner at my firm for 13 years.
As a trial lawyer, I have handled thousands of cases. More significantly, I have tried over 30 of these to a verdict in front of juries in Allegheny County and various other counties throughout Western Pennsylvania. I have also tried cases in West Virginia and Ohio. I have represented corporations and individuals as both plaintiffs and defendants. In 1988 I received my United States citizenship and joined the Democratic Party. I have taught at Duffs Business School and the paralegal program at Duquesne University. I have also served as a Special Master to a federal judge in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
I have been married for 18 years to Susan Mosites Bicket. We live in the South Hills with our 2 children, Ian (15) and Kalli (10).
